An Update on GAiN in Haiti
Global Aid Network Canada is a partner ministry of TruthMedia
“After spending the past 5 days seeing, feeling and smelling the destruction and massive loss of life from the earthquake just over one week ago, I am deeply moved.” – Bill Blaney GAiN Canada Director
GAiN, the humanitarian division of Power to Change, is still on the ground in Haiti and it is imperative that we continue to remember them in our prayers. We have received reports from within Haiti, including video, audio and photographs of the destruction, the sadness and the hope of the local church.
If you would like to see and hear what GAiN is doing in Haiti here are some ways you can connect and spread the word about the ministry.

MONDAY
Praise and prayer for donations
In the first week after the earthquake Power to Change has received donations for the work GAiN is doing in Haiti and the supplies that are being sent there. In that short time God provided over $310,000! Since then plans have been made to send 12 containers of aid, each holding $100,000 (CAN) in emergency provisions. Praise Him with us for His great provision and start praying now for wisdom in the use of these funds, safety for those transporting the materials and that those receiving them would understand the love of Jesus through our gifts. If you or someone you know would like to donate to the work of GAiN in Haiti you can do so here.
Online Request: Teen & Youth Concern
“How can I make myself feel better about my appearance and not having a boyfriend. My family says I am pretty but no guy will ever say that and it just hurts when I can’t get a boyfriend but my friends do.”
TUESDAY
Praise and prayer for safety and trauma counseling
Praise God that the GAiN staff have been able to enter Haiti and have access to many of the areas they need to go. Continue to pray with us today that God would keep His hand of protection over the staff and the Haitian people still alive and living through dangerous aftershocks that rock the already perilously unstable buildings. GAiN will begin trauma counseling as early as Friday and have already scheduled training for local pastors and church leaders that will begin as soon as the counselors arrive. Praise God that He has provided these counselors who will share with the people the hope of true healing through Jesus Christ.
Online Request: Health & Safety Concern
“Pray for me as I have end stage emphysema and have been placed in Hospice care now.” (TM Online Mentor)
WEDNESDAY
Prayer for the Haitian church
The Haitian church has lost members of their body, resources and many of their church buildings. But so many of them still many of them seek God in their time of need and sing praises to Him in the midst of their pain. You can watch a video of a church singing outside their destroyed building here. Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in Haiti, with whom we are connected as part of one family. Praise God for the network of at least 100 churches that GAiN is working with and through in Haiti. Let’s “weep with those who weep”, lift them up in prayer and ask God to be their strength, that their faith would shine out as a light to the country of Haiti and the world.
Online Request: Family & Financial Concern
“Please pray for restoration for my relationship with my daughter. She recently told me she is gay but has also been in a wonderful relationship with a man for five years. I am having a very hard time saying it is okay for her to be gay; she is calling me a homophobic and saying I’m not supporting her.”
THURSDAY
Prayer for our online mentors
Continue to pray for TruthMedia’s online mentors as they answer prayer requests and come alongside people who are struggling. In the wake of such a destructive event many people question life, question God and look for answers. Ask God to give the mentors, community leaders and TM staff His wisdom, that He would speak through them to those who are searching and struggling. If you or someone you know would like to have an online mentor come alongside you, you can email a mentor now.
Online Request: Marriage & Relationship Concern
“Please pray that God would heal my 25 year marriage. My husband has emotionally detached from me for the last two years. Now he is living in New York City with a high paying job, a night life, all the freedom and wants out of the marriage.”
FRIDAY
Praise and prayer for volunteers in Canada
Back home in Canada Power to Change has put out a call for staff and volunteers to man the call center and assist in the support efforts of the work in Haiti. Praise God for the many people who gave of their time to call supporters, put together necessary paperwork and will be loading 1 million meals into a container bound for Haiti this week. Pray for the staff and volunteers putting in long hours and thank God for how He is working through the faithfulness of His people.
Online Request: Spiritual Concern
“I feel like God isn’t there anymore. He doesn’t respond to my prayers, I can’t feel his presence, and I’m tired of pushing through when I don’t see any results. I haven’t slept more than four hours a night since my daughter was born last summer and my husband isn’t being a spiritual leader in our house.”
